Cyprus Private Hospitals Federation Authorizes Potential Closures Due to Nursing Shortage

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has authorized its leadership to take all necessary measures, including the suspension of hospital operations, due to the severe shortage of nursing staff in Cyprus. The OEB expresses strong concern over the state's inaction in addressing the problem, which is exacerbating the crisis in the healthcare sector and endangering patients and the viability of hospitals. Despite repeated consultations and proposals from the OEB, no measures have been adopted to resolve the issue. Recently, the Ministry of Health commissioned a report on human resource needs, a move the OEB believes indicates a lack of understanding of the urgency of the situation. The OEB emphasizes the need for immediate action and warns of potential extreme consequences, such as hospital closures.
