Foot-and-Mouth Disease Guidelines for Livestock Farmers in Dromolaxia – Meneou

The Municipality of Dromolaxia – Meneou has issued instructions and guidelines to livestock farmers in the area regarding foot-and-mouth disease, following outbreaks in Livadia and Oroklini. Collaboration with the State Veterinary Services is underway to take all necessary preventative measures. Farmers have been informed about ten guidelines concerning the protection and prevention of the disease, including avoiding contact with wild animals, using disinfectants, and implementing biosecurity measures. The Municipality has already begun implementing the instructions, and inspectors from the Municipality and members of the Police will close roads to prevent the movement of animals. Additionally, disinfectant mats will be placed on main roads. Although the Dromolaxia – Meneou area is at a marginal distance from the affected areas, immediate adherence to the guidelines is considered crucial to prevent the spread of the virus. The guidelines also include keeping animals separate from wild animals, applying pest and rodent control measures, and using appropriate disinfectants at the entrances and exits of facilities. Emphasis is placed on prevention and avoiding the spread of the virus to other livestock areas. So far, there has been no need for a visit from a Veterinary Services official to the area, as the distance from the outbreaks is sufficient. However, the situation is being closely monitored, and the immediate implementation of the guidelines is essential.
