Cyprus Health Insurance Organization: Blood Type Registration Available in Beneficiary Medical Profiles

The Cyprus Health Insurance Organization (HIO) announced the implementation of a new feature in the General Healthcare System (GHS) starting February 25, 2026, allowing the registration of beneficiaries' blood types in their Medical Profiles. The registration will be carried out exclusively by Personal Doctors through a new section on the GHS platform, aiming to enhance the completeness and accuracy of medical data. Other healthcare providers and the beneficiaries themselves will have access to the registered blood type but will not be able to modify it. Beneficiaries can access the information through the GHS website, via the 'Beneficiary Portal', where they can view their registered blood type, the date of registration, and the Personal Doctor who entered the information. Access to the feature requires beneficiaries to have an account in the Beneficiary Portal and have linked their Beneficiary File. The HIO provides instructions and clarifications through the GHS Service Center at 17000. This new feature represents a significant step towards improving the management of medical data and providing better care for GHS beneficiaries, as knowing blood type is crucial in emergency situations and transfusions.
