“The Place Will Be Left Without Water with Possible Blackouts” - Warning Signal from Unions

Unions of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) are warning of serious problems in the energy sector, with potential consequences such as water and power outages (blackouts). They believe that the bill to activate Cyta in the energy sector exacerbates the situation. The unions point to delays in the replacement of old production units, as well as problems in the funding of new units. Additionally, they express dissatisfaction with the lack of EAC investment in renewable energy sources. They argue that the EAC was prevented from developing its own renewable energy parks, resulting in its inability to reduce the cost of the kilowatt-hour for consumers. Furthermore, they state that the government has not resolved the issue of installing energy storage systems in the networks. The unions have begun information meetings for EAC staff, at the provincial level, to raise awareness of the serious problems facing the energy sector and to promote solutions.
