Trump Considered an Enemy of Europe, According to Poll

According to a poll conducted in seven European countries, US President Donald Trump is considered an “enemy of Europe” by 51% of respondents, while only 8% characterize him as a “friend of Europe.” 39% have no clear opinion. The poll, conducted by the Cluster 17 institute, was carried out in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Poland. The poll showed that perceptions of Trump vary by country. In Poland, where the US is considered an important ally, only 28% view him as hostile, while 48% have no opinion. In the other countries, the majority of respondents have a negative view of Trump. Regarding the stance the EU should take towards the US, 46% of respondents favor “opposition,” 44% favor “compromise,” and only 10% favor “alignment.” Finally, a large majority of respondents (73%) believe that the EU “should rely on itself without counting on US support” for its defense, indicating a growing desire for European strategic autonomy.
