The Turkish Trojan Horse of Olguin

Maria Angela Olguin, the UN Special Envoy for Cyprus, is accused of acting as a "Turkish Trojan Horse" by adopting Ankara's positions and hindering progress in negotiations on the Cyprus issue. This behavior has caused strong dissatisfaction from the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who feels betrayed by the support she provides to Tufan Erhurman, the Turkish Cypriot leader, and the trust she shows in Olguin. Concerns are also expressed by various political and economic actors in Cyprus, who argue that President Christodoulides' policy is not flexible enough. Olguin has previously referred to "voices outside the formal process" that could contribute to compromises, which is interpreted as an attempt to make new concessions. This situation has created tension and doubts about Olguin's impartiality and the prospect of resolving the Cyprus issue.
