Cyprus and Greece Coordinate on Housing Policy

The Minister of Interior of Cyprus, Konstantinos Ioannou, and the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family of Greece, Domna Michailidou, met in Nicosia to discuss housing policy issues. The meeting focused on coordination between the two countries within the framework of the European Affordable Housing Initiative, as well as the exchange of best practices and experiences. Both ministers recognized the lack of affordable housing as a pan-European problem with implications for social cohesion and competitiveness. Mr. Ioannou emphasized that the Cypriot Presidency has prioritized affordable, economical, and sustainable housing, and that discussions on the European Plan will progress with the aim of strengthening dialogue and exchanging experiences. He expressed Cyprus's readiness to support the Greek side within the framework of its Presidency. Ms. Michailidou thanked the Minister of Interior for the meeting and expressed the Greek side's pride in the Cypriot Presidency. She referred to the importance of housing and the efforts made by member states to address the problem. It was agreed to continue and strengthen cooperation between Cyprus and Greece through the exchange of best practices and knowledge, with the aim of developing more effective and coordinated housing policies.
