Reza Pahlavi Calls for US Military Intervention in Iran

Reza Pahlavi, son of the last Shah of Iran, has called for US military intervention in Iran, arguing that it could save lives and accelerate the downfall of the regime. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Pahlavi stated that the Iranian government is on the verge of collapse and that an attack could weaken it. Pahlavi argued that negotiations with the clerical leaders of Tehran are a waste of time and that US intervention is necessary to return power to the people. He emphasized that intervention could save lives, given the violent suppression of protests that erupted in Iran in December. The protests began as a peaceful demonstration against economic hardship and quickly spread across the country, resulting in the arrest of thousands of people. The Iranian opposition is divided, with royalists, who support Pahlavi, being one of many groups and ideological factions. President Trump has previously expressed reservations about the support Pahlavi enjoys in Iran. However, Pahlavi insists that US intervention is the only way to save lives and restore freedom to the Iranian people.
