Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will brief Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the sidelines of the informal European Council in Belgium. The Mitsotakis-Erdoğan meeting took place within the framework of the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey in Ankara. Following the meeting, Mitsotakis stated that there is a “window of opportunity” to restart a substantive dialogue on the Cyprus issue, from where it was interrupted in 2017, within the framework of UN Security Council resolutions. The briefing to President Christodoulides is considered important, given Cyprus’s long-standing involvement in the Cyprus issue. Prior to the European Council, President Christodoulides will participate in a meeting with other European leaders, initiated by the German Chancellor and the Prime Ministers of Italy and Belgium, on the topic of European competitiveness. This discussion is expected to focus on ways to strengthen the economic power of the European Union.
