Iranian FM to Meet IAEA Chief

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced he will meet with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, today in Geneva, ahead of a new round of talks between the US and Iran regarding Iran's nuclear program. Araghchi stated that he is bringing “real ideas” for a fair and equitable agreement, emphasizing that he will not succumb to threats. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful and is ready to allay concerns, as well as demonstrate the use of enrichment for peaceful purposes. The IAEA is requesting Iran to explain what happened to its stock of highly enriched uranium and permit full inspections of the facilities that were bombed. However, Iran argues that these facilities are not safe for inspection and that the IAEA needs to clarify its position regarding the attacks. A previous agreement between the IAEA and Iran was cancelled after the reimposition of sanctions.
