French Artist JR Plans to Turn Pont Neuf into a Cave

French artist JR plans to transform the Pont Neuf in Paris into an impressive cave, an immersive art installation that will stretch 120 meters in length and 17 meters in height. The project, titled “Pont Neuf Cavern,” will include surround sound and digital augmented reality, offering a unique experience for pedestrians. The installation is a tribute to artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, whose work in 1985 changed the landscape of public art in Paris. JR, who had the opportunity to meet Christo, wishes to honor their work in his own, unique way. The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, strongly supported the project, calling it a “gift” to the city and recalling her impressive experience from the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1985. The implementation of the project had been delayed due to technical and organizational difficulties, but is now expected in 2026.
