The Year in Review Without Illusions

Taking stock of the year that is ending is an established process, but as we grow in experience, it becomes more strict and realistic. We no longer focus solely on successes, but also on the compromises we made, the patience we exhausted in situations and with people who did not deserve it. The author emphasizes the need to be honest with ourselves, recognizing the cost of our choices and our silences. Constant adaptation to the demands of others is not a virtue, but often self-sabotage. It is important to set boundaries and not sacrifice our internal balance to please others. Instead of setting big and ambitious goals that often collapse, it is suggested to set meaningful goals that focus on protecting our mental health and choosing the situations and people in which it is worth investing our energy. Realism does not kill dreams, but protects them from disillusionment. The new year is not a magic wand, but an opportunity for a cleaner attitude to life, where we will not put our hand in the fire for anyone if we are not ready to get burned. True happiness lies in authenticity and self-acceptance, and not in trying to please everyone.
