Efforts to obtain a statement from Ioanna Fotiou, known as 'Annie Alexui', who is wanted and allegedly located in Russia, pose a challenge for Cypriot authorities. Fotiou has made serious allegations against political figures, police officers, and members of the underworld. Lawyer Achilleas Aemilianides explained that the judicial authorities have the power to lift the international warrants issued against her, as they were initially issued for her extradition. The Attorney General has the power to suspend judicial proceedings, including the possibility of rescheduling. The Legal Service is investigating Fotiou's allegations both regarding cases involving her and other individuals. At the same time, the possibility of cooperation with Russian authorities is being examined based on a bilateral agreement on judicial matters, however, the geopolitical situation complicates the process. The agreement with Russia provides procedures for taking witness statements and executing warrants. However, due to current conditions, cooperation is difficult. Cypriot authorities must follow the prescribed procedures of the agreement to proceed with the recovery of evidence.
