"Dusting Off" Cases of the Paphos Municipality, Increased Number of Complaints

Checks regarding the management of Turkish Cypriot properties in Paphos are in full swing, with the Ministry of Interior examining dozens of files received from the Service in Paphos. Cases concerning the Municipality of Paphos are at the center of attention, while the checks extend to broader administrative issues of the Municipality. Following the decision for the suspension of the Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Phaedonos, there has been an increase in complaints to the Ministry of Interior, concerning both the management of Turkish Cypriot properties and administrative actions of the Municipality. Evidence is being examined for possible irregularities in grants, lease renewals, and administrative practices. Issues in the management of Turkish Cypriot properties have been recorded since the Turkish invasion, with intermittent checks in Paphos and other provinces. The Ministry is seeking to rationalize management where weaknesses are identified. In addition to the administrative review, police investigations are also underway for criminal cases involving Mr. Phaedonos. The Ministry is awaiting the completion of the police investigation to assess the data and determine the next steps. Complaints have also been submitted to the Audit Office, which will not make a public statement before the completion of the evaluation.
