Citizens Scammed via Viber Videocall Impersonating Police Chief

The Cyprus Police are warning the public about new phone scams via Viber, where perpetrators impersonate police officers. The scammers contact unsuspecting citizens via video calls, posing as the Chief of Police or other officers, and persuade them to reveal personal details and credit card information under the pretext of immigration checks or financial fraud investigations. In a recent case, a perpetrator used a police uniform and a photo of a Deputy Chief of Police as their profile picture. Police urge the public not to respond to such calls, not to disclose personal information, and to immediately inform their bank if they have provided credit card details.
