Duplantis and Bonmati Crowned AIPS Athletes of the Year 2025

The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has announced its Athletes of the Year for 2025, with Armand Duplantis (pole vault) and Aitana Bonmati (football) taking the top honors in their respective categories. Duplantis, also recognized in 2024, broke the world record four times during the year, while Bonmati stood out for her performances in football. Paris Saint-Germain was named the best team, and the FIFA Club World Cup was awarded for its excellent press facilities. The AIPS vote involved 836 sports journalists from 121 countries. The Greek women's water polo team, which won the gold medal at the World Championship, did not make it into the top ten of the 'Best Team' category. Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz finished second in the Athlete of the Year vote, having won eight titles and achieved 71 victories, a record for a single season. French footballer Ousmane Dembélé came in third, having won six titles with Paris Saint-Germain and earned individual accolades. Aitana Bonmati is the first athlete to be crowned by AIPS, having excelled with Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Her award marks recognition of her significant contribution to football.
