Nikolas Papadopoulos: Tightrope Walk with the Government – How Far Will It Go?

Nikolas Papadopoulos, president of DIKO, continues to criticize the government, focusing on the issue of the electricity interconnection cable with Greece. Despite his strong disagreements, Papadopoulos assures that DIKO will not withdraw from the government. His criticism concerns the lack of prior consultation and coordination on important issues, such as the electricity interconnection project and the recent reshuffle. President Christodoulides appeared cautious in his statements regarding the disagreement with DIKO, while simultaneously referring to the need for a center-right parliamentary majority, undermining ELAM's position. DIKO believes that there was insufficient consultation before the reshuffle, which affected the party's ballot. However, DIKO has strengthened its participation in the government, with two of its three vice-presidents taking positions. Papadopoulos calls on the President to clarify his position regarding the statements of the Minister of Labor, Marinos Mousiouttas, which questioned DIKO's actions. He argues that the GSI (Great Sea Interconnector) is a project of strategic importance for Cyprus, which can bring economic benefits and upgrade the country. He points out the contradictions between the statements of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy regarding the GSI, highlighting the inconsistency in government policy. The issue remains open and further discussion and clarification from the government side are expected.
