Nikolas Papadopoulos Seeks Clarification on Mousiouttas' Statements – Addresses Potential Government Withdrawal

Disagreement continues between the Government and DIKO, with party leader Nikolas Papadopoulos expressing strong criticism regarding the handling of the electricity interconnection project (GSI). Papadopoulos accuses the Government of a lack of substantial prior consultation and coordination on important issues, while also seeking clarification on statements made by Labor Minister Marinos Mousiouttas regarding “survival games” from DIKO’s side. Papadopoulos emphasizes that the GSI is a project of great geopolitical importance for Cyprus, capable of reducing electricity costs and upgrading the country. However, he expresses concern over contradictory statements between the Ministries of Finance and Energy regarding the project’s viability. Regarding the removal of Giorgos Papanastasiou from the Ministry of Energy, Papadopoulos clarifies that DIKO does not judge individuals but policies. He also expresses concern that the collapse of the project could bring Turkey and the occupied territories back into Europe’s energy planning. Despite the disagreements, Papadopoulos assures that there is no question of DIKO withdrawing from the Government, however, he points out that there are other issues where insufficient consultation is observed.
