Nikolas Papadopoulos: Situation with Foot-and-Mouth Disease Manageable if Protocols are Followed

Nikolas Papadopoulos, President of DIKO, emphasized the need for cooperation and moderation in dealing with the foot-and-mouth disease crisis in livestock farming. He believes the situation is manageable if European protocols are fully implemented and farmers receive substantial support. He noted that, according to the EU Health Commissioner, the implementation of the protocols is crucial to prevent the spread of the disease. In addition, he stated that significant compensation has been secured for farmers who will be forced to cull their animals, covering not only the cost of restoration but also lost profits. He warned that failure to implement the measures could lead to long-term disasters in livestock farming.
