Nigeria: At Least 38 Dead in Village Attack

At least 38 people were killed in an attack by armed men on a village in Zamfara state, northwestern Nigeria. Local authorities report 38 deaths, while eyewitnesses speak of 50. The area is affected by the activity of jihadist organizations such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa, as well as local armed groups. The Nigerian army has been deployed in the area for years, without being able to effectively address the activity of the armed men. Attempts at reconciliation through amnesty or financial compensation have not yielded results. The resurgence of attacks has provoked the anger of the United States, which carried out airstrikes against jihadists in coordination with Nigerian authorities on Christmas Day. The wave of jihadist attacks in Nigeria has caused the deaths of more than 40,000 people since 2009. The situation remains critical and requires immediate and effective action.
