Netanyahu: No Real Progress on Gaza Deal Without Hamas Disarmament

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the disarmament of Hamas is the central obstacle to progress on the Gaza deal. He argued that Hamas possesses significant military strength, including tens of thousands of weapons and an extensive tunnel network, and refuses to disarm despite previous commitments. Netanyahu claimed Hamas uses the weapons to oppress the population of Gaza. He expressed hope that the second phase of the American plan, which involves the deployment of an international stabilization force, can move forward, but emphasized that Hamas disarmament is a non-negotiable condition. He also left open the possibility of alternative options should the diplomatic effort fail.
