Man Dead and Woman Critical After Attempting to Heat with Coals in Paphos Restaurant

A 44-year-old man was found dead and a 32-year-old woman in critical condition at a restaurant in Petra tou Romiou, after attempting to warm themselves with coals. The restaurant owner informed the Police when he found them unconscious in a basement area used as a residence by the 44-year-old. The 44-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 32-year-old was taken to Paphos General Hospital with serious respiratory problems and is being treated in the ICU. The woman worked as a domestic helper in a village in Paphos. A metal container with lit coals was found in the room, which they apparently used for heating. The fumes from the coals caused the death of the 44-year-old. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy. The Police are investigating to determine the circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred.
