Dead Sperm Whale Found on the Coast of Akanthou

A dead sperm whale, a male approximately five meters long, was found on the coast of occupied Akanthou on Tuesday afternoon. The animal's weight is estimated at 1.5 tons. Teams from the "wildlife rehabilitation center," based in the occupied Mountain, were mobilized to remove and transport the whale. The "director" of the "center," Kemal Basat, stated that the incident occurred on a date close to a similar event three years ago when 13 sperm whales were stranded. This suggests a possible recurrence of the phenomenon in the area. The transfer of the animal from the difficult location where it was found is underway. The sperm whale will then be transported to the center's facilities for a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death. The incident has garnered interest in Turkish Cypriot media, as the stranding of marine mammals is a rare occurrence. Investigating the cause of the sperm whale's death may provide important information about the health of the marine environment in the area.
