AKEL, EDEK and Ecologists Call for a 'Freeze' on the Implementation of the Mercosur Agreement

A joint resolution calling on the European Commission and the EU Council to refrain from the provisional application of the Mercosur agreement until a decision is made by the European Court of Justice has been adopted by AKEL, EDEK, the Citizens' Movement, and MPs. The resolution expresses concern over the potentially devastating consequences of the agreement for the agricultural sector of the EU and Cyprus, as well as risks to consumer health. The proponents of the resolution argue that the agreement was made without the input of farmers and citizens and serves large industrial interests. They also emphasize the need to respect the European Parliament's decision to refer the agreement to the Court.
