Keep Communication Channels Open: Message from Athens Before Mitsotakis-Erdogan Meeting

Athens emphasizes the importance of keeping communication channels open with Turkey, in order to de-escalate potential crises, just hours before Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' trip to Ankara for a meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The issue of maritime zone delimitation is not on the agenda, but will be discussed if raised by the Turkish side. Athens condemns the illegal Turkish NAVTEX and will lodge protests with Turkey and the IMO, while remaining firm in pursuing an active foreign policy based on International Law. Ms. Zochi clarified that there will be no discussion on matters of national interest.
