New Headache for Paphos Municipality: 'They Knew for a Year and a Half' - Expect €2.5 Million Overcharge

Paphos Municipality is facing new financial problems, as it has been revealed that two projects funded by the European 'Thalia' program have lost their funding due to accessibility issues. The DIKO municipal group accuses the municipal authorities of knowing about the problems for a year and a half, but only informing the Municipal Council now. The attempt to cover the gap with a loan intended for the Historical Documentation Center did not succeed, as this would be illegal double funding. As a result, the Municipality will have to take out a new loan, resulting in an additional burden of approximately €2.5 million. According to DIKO, the case concerns the handling of two funding instruments for municipal projects. The loan will be transferred to cover the projects in Anavargos and the Southern Commercial Center, while the remaining amount will be allocated to other projects. The DIKO municipal group expresses strong objections to the way the municipal authorities handled the case.
