New Message from Öcalan on “Closing the Period of Violence” in Turkey

The pro-Kurdish DEM party announced the release of a new message from Abdullah Öcalan, marking one year since his call for the dissolution of the PKK. The message states that “the period of politics based on violence is closing,” while emphasizing the organization’s “political choice” and “declaration of spiritual reconciliation with the Republic” through the dissolution decision. Öcalan calls on all parties to take responsibility, pointing out that moves motivated by “narrow political interests” weaken the process. The co-chairperson of the DEM Parti, Tülay Hatimoğulları, stated that “the responsibility now lies with the Government,” calling for the immediate formulation of policy and the determination of a clear roadmap for the next steps. Öcalan’s message comes at a critical time for Turkey, as the government faces challenges in addressing the Kurdish issue. The call for the dissolution of the PKK and Öcalan’s new message represent an important step towards peace and stability in the region, however, the success of the process depends on the response of the Turkish government.
