New Energy Chapter for Greece with Chevron–HelleniQ Energy

Greece and the Chevron–HelleniQ Energy consortium have signed lease agreements for the research and exploitation of hydrocarbons in marine areas south of the Peloponnese and Crete. The agreement, signed at the Maximos Palace in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, marks a significant step for Greece's strategy to become an energy security and transit hub. The agreements concern four marine blocks and strengthen Greece's role on the regional energy map. Chevron's presence is considered recognition of Greece's sovereign rights. According to the plan, Chevron will begin seismic surveys by the end of 2026, and if strong indications are found, targeted research will follow to confirm commercially exploitable deposits. The government recalls the country's overall energy strategy, with investments in infrastructure and interconnections.
