New Decree Issued for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Measures in Cyprus

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus issued a new Decree on March 12th, aiming to strengthen measures to combat foot-and-mouth disease. The decree includes additional prohibitions and provisions regarding the movement of materials (wool, hides, manure), animal slaughter, shearing of cloven-hoofed animals, and forage harvesting. Existing prohibitions on the movement and grazing of cloven-hoofed animals, as well as on animal feed and veterinary medicines, remain in force. Non-compliance with the decree carries an administrative fine of up to €5,000. The new decree replaces the previous one of March 5th, 2026, while the competent authority determines the zones where the restrictive measures apply.
