New Talks Between Russian, Ukrainian and American Officials in Geneva

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met in Geneva with the participation of a U.S. delegation in an effort to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting follows two unproductive talks in the United Arab Emirates. The Russian delegation, led by Vladimir Medinsky, arrived in Geneva this morning, while the Ukrainian team arrived the previous day. Prior to the talks, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had destroyed more than 150 Ukrainian drones, mainly over the Black Sea, Crimea and the Azov Sea. This development suggests an escalation of military operations alongside diplomatic efforts. The negotiations focus on the American plan, which includes the possibility of territorial concessions by Ukraine in exchange for Western security guarantees. The issue of Donbas is a major point of disagreement, as Russia seeks the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the areas it controls, which Kyiv rejects. Donald Trump urges Ukraine to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing the need for a diplomatic solution. Russia continues its military operations, while the talks in Geneva take place at a critical point in the conflict, with uncertain prospects for peace.
