New Complaint Regarding Patient Death at Larnaca General Hospital: “The Doctor Was Laughing…”

A new complaint regarding medical negligence has come to light at the Larnaca General Hospital, following the death of a 92-year-old patient. The deceased's daughter reported serious omissions and deficiencies in her father's care, describing tragic hospital conditions and overall dysfunction of the hospital. She claims that during her father's eight-day hospitalization, a total of five patient deaths occurred. According to the complaint, the patient was admitted with a mild stroke but remained in the Emergency Department for hours. The daughter claims that the doctor did not give clear instructions and that her father received food when he shouldn't have, resulting in aspiration pneumonia. She also complains of a lack of information and coordination between medical and nursing staff. The complainant described a series of problems, such as the need to sign for her father's hands to be tied due to anxiety, the delay in placing a nasogastric tube to administer medication, and the lack of adequate monitoring. She states that she had to seek help from Nicosia to transfer her father to a more specialized department. The daughter of the deceased calls on the competent authorities to take responsibility and investigate the circumstances of her father's death, as well as the general operating conditions of the hospital. This complaint adds to a series of similar incidents reported at the Larnaca General Hospital, raising concerns about the quality of healthcare services provided.
