Toyota Invests in New Circular Factory in Poland

Toyota Motor Europe has announced the creation of a new Circular Factory in Walbrzych, Poland, strengthening its commitment to developing a comprehensive circular economy model in Europe. The new facility, covering 25,000 square meters, will process approximately 20,000 end-of-life vehicles annually, aiming to maximize material utilization and reduce environmental impact. The Circular Factory will employ a holistic approach to vehicle processing, emphasizing the recovery of reusable components and valuable raw materials. Components such as batteries and wheels will be evaluated for refurbishment, reuse, or recycling, while materials like copper, steel, aluminum, and plastic will be reintegrated into the production process of new vehicles. The new unit will operate in conjunction with Toyota's existing plant in Walbrzych, which already produces key components for hybrid and conventional drive systems. Poland was chosen due to the availability of end-of-life vehicles, the developed recycling chain, and the existing production base. Toyota emphasizes that the circular economy is a key catalyst for achieving carbon neutrality, as it reduces emissions throughout the vehicle lifecycle and limits reliance on high-carbon footprint raw materials. The company is committed to full carbon neutrality by 2040 and a zero carbon footprint in its owned facilities by 2030.
