Moscow Proposes Nuclear Power Plant to Serbia

Russia has offered to build a nuclear power plant in Serbia using Russian technology, as part of an international consortium. The head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, stated that the plant could be 99-100% Russian-made, with maximum supplier involvement. Serbia currently has no nuclear power plant and has a ban on construction in place since 1989, following the Chernobyl disaster. It generates 70% of its energy from coal and relies on Russia for natural gas. This proposal comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions and a search for alternative energy sources.
