Burkina Faso: At Least 10 Dead in Series of Jihadist Attacks

At least ten people have died in a series of attacks carried out by jihadists in Burkina Faso, against military detachments in the north and east of the country. The attacks began last Thursday and continue, raising concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the region. Burkina Faso has been facing violence from jihadist organizations that have pledged allegiance to either al-Qaeda or the Islamic State for over a decade. The situation has worsened since the military coup that seized power in September 2022. The most recent attack took place in the town of Naré, while previous attacks occurred in Titao and Tanjari. Authorities report that the attackers were numerous and well-armed, causing significant damage to military facilities. The government of Burkina Faso rarely publicizes casualty figures from jihadist attacks. However, the Ministry of Interior of neighboring Ghana reported that it has received information about an attack against its citizens in Titao.
