Cyprus Audit Office Investigates Complaints Regarding Paphos Municipality

The Auditor General Andreas Papakonstantinou stated that the Audit Office is not currently investigating the Paphos Municipality, but is reviewing submitted complaints. Any findings will be made public. Mr. Papakonstantinou mentioned meetings with individuals wishing to submit complaints regarding the Paphos Municipality, and further decisions on potential audits will be made afterward. He also mentioned a planned audit of two high-risk municipalities in Limassol, which may be adjusted. Regarding previous complaints, he clarified that they had been forwarded to the Paphos Police and are now being investigated by the Attorney General. Mr. Papakonstantinou discussed energy matters and project delays, such as Vasilikos and the interconnection cable, with the President. He emphasized that the state invests in these organizations and expects those in charge to take risks and responsibility for their decisions. Finally, the Auditor General noted that the Service audits and does not execute, highlighting problems and submitting recommendations. He considered the situation in Vasilikos unacceptable and that some actions are being taken, but he did not discuss these in detail with the President. The Service aims to increase productivity and reduce citizen inconvenience.
