Mustafa Akinci, Ersin Tatar and Ozdil Nami Mourn the Loss of Giorgos Vassiliou

Former Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, former Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, and Ozdil Nami expressed their condolences on the passing of former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgos Vassiliou. All three politicians conveyed their sorrow to the deceased's family and the Greek Cypriot community through social media. Mustafa Akinci emphasized that Giorgos Vassiliou was dedicated to a logical solution to the Cyprus issue, since the 1980s, whether as President, party leader, or a simple citizen. He also noted that the late President continued to contribute to efforts for the reunification of the island within a federal framework, emphasizing dialogue with Turkish Cypriots and possessing a realistic and modern vision. Ersin Tatar pointed out that Giorgos Vassiliou would be remembered for his different approach compared to other Greek Cypriot leaders, as he highlighted the search for contact and dialogue with the Turkish Cypriot side during his term. Ozdil Nami, in a particularly warm message, described Giorgos Vassiliou as an important political leader and expressed his certainty that if the late President had been the Turkish Cypriot negotiator at the 2017 Crans-Montana Conference, the outcome would have been very different.
