Michailidou: Education is the Foundation of the Cypriot Presidency

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michailidou, presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency in the areas of Education, Youth and Sports, emphasizing that education is the foundation and catalyst for a resilient and innovative Europe. The Cypriot Presidency seeks a balanced agenda, aligned with the European Education Area and broader European policies. In the field of Education, the Presidency will promote negotiations on the Erasmus+ Regulation, aiming to make it more inclusive and accessible. At the same time, it will focus on strengthening the prestige and attractiveness of the teaching profession through attractive careers, continuous professional development and evaluation, as well as supportive working conditions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the institutional and professional protection of teachers, so that they can utilize Artificial Intelligence as a tool for pedagogical quality and not as a threat. The Presidency will promote a comprehensive, student-centered approach to skills, aligned with the vision of the European Education Area and the Skills Agenda. In addition, cooperation in Higher Education will be strengthened, promoting discussions on mobility, international collaborations and the possibility of a common European degree. The Cypriot Presidency will seek to achieve a partial general approach to the Erasmus+ regulation within the framework of the new Multiannual Financial Framework.
