Mexico Suspends Oil Deliveries to Cuba, Cites 'Sovereign Decision'

Published January 27, 2026, 18:10

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that the suspension of oil deliveries to Cuba is a sovereign decision of her country and is not related to pressure from the United States. However, she acknowledged that Mexico had suspended a scheduled crude oil delivery to Cuba. This decision comes after Donald Trump’s warning to halt the flow of oil and money to Cuba, as well as the cessation of supplies from Venezuela. Mexico was the second-largest oil supplier to Cuba, after Venezuela, and its shipments are critical to meeting the island’s energy needs.
