Mexico: 2,500 Soldiers Deployed to Jalisco After 'El Mencho's' Death

Mexico has deployed 2,500 additional soldiers to the western state of Jalisco as a deterrent measure following the death of the leader of one of Mexico's largest drug cartels, Nemesio Oseguera, known as 'El Mencho'. The total military presence in the area now amounts to 7,000 soldiers. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that there was no involvement of the United States in the operation, but there was an exchange of information. This deployment is an attempt to prevent the escalation of violence following El Mencho's death.
