Parliamentary Immunity Lifted, Paving the Way for Investigation into Nikos Sykas – Offensive Comments Escalated into Assault

The parliamentary immunity of DISY MP Nikos Sykas has been lifted, paving the way for an investigation regarding allegations of physical violence and threats against a woman in Greece. The Supreme Court's decision was based on an affidavit from the complainant, who initially filed a lawsuit but later withdrew it due to psychological pressure from the publicity of the case. According to the affidavit, Mr. Sykas allegedly made offensive comments and subsequently used physical violence and threats against the complainant during their stay in Greece. A medical report and photographs submitted to the Police support the complainant's claims. The lifting of immunity concerns four offenses: assault, threats, insult to decency, and causing bodily harm. The Supreme Court ruled that there is sufficient evidence to justify the investigation of the MP. The complainant, in her withdrawal statement, mentioned that the publicity of the case causes her stress and psychological pressure, and that she does not wish to further pursue the matter.
