Successful EU IFI Conference 2026 Held in Nicosia

The EU IFI Conference 2026, themed “Fiscal management in changing times: The initial responses”, was successfully held in Nicosia on February 10-11, 2026. The conference was organized by the Fiscal Council of Cyprus and the EU IFI Network and brought together representatives from the independent fiscal institutions of EU member states, government officials, academics, and financial sector professionals. The conference aimed to exchange experiences and reflections on managing the new challenges in fiscal governance and the role of fiscal councils in Europe. The opening of the proceedings was marked by the Deputy Minister to the President, the President of the Fiscal Council, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus. The discussions covered topics such as climate and geopolitical risks, communicating complex fiscal issues to the public, the digital transformation of public finances (including digital currencies and artificial intelligence), and new trends in sovereign debt. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of IFIs after the implementation of the revised European Fiscal Framework, as well as the use of artificial intelligence to improve analysis and decision-making in the field of public finances.
