Malas: Thanks to President Christodoulides for the appointment - "Political rivalries do not concern me"

Stavros Malas expressed his gratitude to President Christodoulides for his appointment as head of the Special Scientific Committee for the reconstruction and upgrading of the livestock sector. He emphasized that the appointment is based on his scientific capacity and his mission as President of the Cyprus Institute, given the critical state of Cypriot livestock farming. Mr. Malas described livestock farming as a vital sector for the economy, rural development, food security and social cohesion, stressing the need for a joint effort from all stakeholders. He recognized that the crisis facing the sector is perhaps the biggest in Cyprus's modern history. He noted that the reconstruction of the sector requires reliable data, scientifically sound approaches and practical solutions, while emphasizing that the effort is not just the responsibility of the state or the government, but of all stakeholders, including farmers, scientists and society. Mr. Malas clarified that political rivalries will have no place in this effort, as the priority is to formulate implementable proposals that will substantially support Cypriot livestock farming. He expressed his belief that the success of the effort is a collective responsibility.
