Macron Affirms France's Support for Denmark and Greenland's Sovereignty

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France supports the territorial integrity and independence of Denmark and Greenland, respecting the principles of the UN Charter. He welcomed the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and her Greenlandic counterpart, Jens Frederik Nielsen, in Paris. Macron emphasized the need to strengthen the military presence of Europe and NATO in the Arctic, responding to the ambitions of Russia and China. He also proposed a reassessment of the European strategy for the Arctic and spoke of a “strategic awakening” of Europe regarding Greenland. The Prime Minister of Denmark agreed with the need to strengthen NATO’s presence in the Arctic.
