Macron Condemns Violence Following Lyon Killing

French President Emmanuel Macron has addressed the political tensions sparked by the lynching of a 23-year-old right-wing student in Lyon, emphasizing that there is no place for violence in a democracy. He called on "extremists" to "clean up their houses" and criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her intervention in the matter, suggesting she focus on domestic issues. Macron condemned all forms of violence and criticized political parties that justify violent acts. French authorities are concerned about an upcoming protest demonstration in memory of the victim, which the mayor of Lyon is calling for to be banned. The young man's parents have appealed for calm and will not participate in the demonstration. Investigations are ongoing into 11 individuals suspected of involvement in the clash, including an associate of a member of parliament from La France Insoumise (France Unbowed). He has been removed from parliament. There is intense debate over the possible expulsion or resignation of MP Raphaël Arnault, however, La France Insoumise continues to support him, denying any responsibility for the events.
