“Massive Installation of Photovoltaics” on Highly Fertile Land – Residents Protest and Collect Signatures

Residents of the community of Koutrafa are protesting the “unacceptable and massive” installation of photovoltaic parks on highly fertile agricultural land. Through an open letter, the Initiative of Residents, Landowners and Friends of Koutrafa, denounces that the photovoltaics are being installed even on fertile land, threatening the flora, fauna, the region’s climate, and groundwater. The residents are collecting signatures to submit to the President of the Republic and the President of the Parliament, requesting an immediate independent environmental study, the institutionalization of the protection of arable land, and the “exposure of those involved”. The protesters emphasize that they are not against green energy, but oppose the sacrifice of fertile land and the environment for large commercial interests. They state that the installation of photovoltaics threatens the ecological balance of the area.
