London Message from Akrotiri: Flexibility & 'NATO First' on the Front Line

Air Vice Marshal Mark Jackson, Commander of No. 1 Group of the Royal Air Force (RAF), visited Cyprus and the Akrotiri airbase, reiterating the strategic importance of the base. The base, the busiest in the United Kingdom, supports operations in the Middle East, including the fight against ISIS. Air Vice Marshal Jackson emphasized the flexibility offered by the base and the priority given to NATO ('NATO first'). During his visit, he inspected the living and operational readiness conditions of personnel and pledged to convey their needs to London. The RAF has deployed six F-35B Lightning fighter jets to the Akrotiri airbase to enhance security in the region.
