Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak: Road Closures in Larnaca

Measures are being taken to address a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the Livadia livestock area of Larnaca. Veterinary Services have closed roads leading to the area, with the Police having set up roadblocks. Traffic has been disrupted on roads leading to the main entrance of the livestock area from Livadia and Kellia, as well as on 25th March Street in Oroklini. The police are patrolling the area and veterinary services teams are disinfecting the tires of vehicles leaving the blocked area. These measures aim to limit the spread of the disease and protect livestock production. According to a previous announcement, the origin of the foot-and-mouth disease is being investigated and 260 animals have been culled. The situation is being closely monitored by the competent authorities, while farmers are urged to strictly adhere to prevention and safety measures. The Cyprus News Agency reports that the situation is under control, however vigilance remains high to prevent further spread of the disease. Residents and visitors to the area are asked to comply with the instructions of the authorities and avoid access to the blocked area.
