Marios Kouloumas (OSAK): Lack of Control in GESY Affects Patients and Medications

The honorary president of OSAK, Marios Kouloumas, pointed out in the morning edition of ASTRA the absence of control in healthcare within the framework of GESY, following patient complaints. He emphasized the need for quality indicators and respect for patients by healthcare providers. Mr. Kouloumas stressed that the law concerning the operation of hospitals is inadequate, as it only covers private hospitals and does not include quality criteria. He advocated for the immediate updating of the law to correct distortions in GESY. Referring to medications and their prices, Mr. Kouloumas emphasized that patients should not be financially burdened for the quality of the medications they receive. He considered it unethical to ask patients to change medications due to financial constraints, especially when there is no alternative solution. Finally, Mr. Kouloumas stated that the increase in co-payment for GESY medications affects thousands of patients, particularly low-income pensioners. OSAK has requested an urgent meeting with the Ministry of Health and the HIO to find a solution for the benefit of patients.
