Former Abbakum Monastery Monks' Trial Postponed to May – Bail Conditions Amended

The trial of the two former monks of the Abbakum Monastery, Nektarios and Porphyrios, has been postponed to May 27th due to the absence of a lawyer from the prosecution and efforts to reach a common understanding on certain facts. The defense, led by lawyer Eustathios Eustathiou, successfully amended the bail conditions, reducing the frequency of their appearances at the police station to once a week. The accused face serious financial charges, including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, theft, illegal possession of assets worth over €63,000, money laundering, interference in a judicial process, and false tax declarations. The defense side denies all charges, and the monks remain free on bail, with the obligation to sign in at the police station. During today's hearing, the prosecution requested an adjournment in order to reach a consensus on certain facts to save time. The court set the start of the hearing for May 27th, when it will be decided whether the first witness will testify.
