Cyprus to Brief EU on Diplomatic Efforts in Middle East

The Cypriot Foreign Minister, Konstantinos Kompos, will brief the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council on the diplomatic efforts being made to de-escalate the crisis in the Middle East. Mr. Kompos visited the United Arab Emirates and met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The United Arab Emirates is playing a central role in de-escalation efforts, leveraging its involvement in the crisis despite negative indications. At the same time, they maintain communication channels with both sides, allowing them to manage the situation with caution. Despite having been attacked, including attacks on critical infrastructure such as Dubai Airport, the UAE does not allow the use of US bases on its territory for operations against Iran. They have closed their embassy in Tehran and have protested to the Iranian regime. Delegates from various countries, including the Chinese government's envoy, and the German Foreign Minister, Johann Wandel, have traveled to Abu Dhabi. The close relationship between Cyprus and the UAE led to Abu Dhabi's immediate response to Nicosia's request for the evacuation of Cypriot citizens.
